Teeth

They gathered about me, examining me, walking about me, regarding me as one might an animal, or slave.
“Teeth,” said the first girl, the lithe, dark-haired girl.
I opened my mouth that she might examine my teeth. Others looked as well.  RAIDERS OF GOR; 6; Page 39

“Kneel,” said the Forkbeard to the girl, “legs apart, palms of your hands on your thighs.”
With a movement of the chain, she did so.
He crouched before her.
“I may wish to use you to breed thralls,” he said. “You must be healthy for the farm. Put your head back, close your eyes and open your mouth.”
She did as she was told, that the Forkbeard might examine her teeth. Much may be told of the age and condition of a female slave, as of a kaiila or bosk, from her teeth.
But the Forkbeard did not look into her mouth. His left hand slipped to the small of her back, holding her, and his right hand went suddenly to her body. She cried out, trying to pull back, but could not, and then, her eyes closed, whimpering, she thrust forward, writhing and then, sobbing, held herself immobile, teeth gritted, eyes screwed shut, trying not to feel. When his hands left her body she tried, sobbing, to strike him, but he caught both her small wrists, holding them. She struggled futilely, held kneeling.
“Put your head back,” he said. “Open your mouth.”
She shook her head, wildly.
“I am holding your hands,” he pointed out.
Warily, eyes open, she opened her mouth. He looked at her teeth.
“I may wish to use you to breed thralls,” he said. “You must be healthy for the farm.”
He stood up.
“What do you want for her?” he asked the officer of Svein Blue Tooth.
“I had her for a broken coin,” he said, “half a silver tarn disk of Tharna. I will let you have her for a whole coin.”
The Forkbeard returned to the man the tarn disk of silver which he had received for Dagmar.
The officer of Svein Blue Tooth, with a key at his belt, unlocked the padlock which held the girl’s collar to the common chain. He tossed the padlock, open, into one of the wooden boxes projecting from the wall.
The girl, kneeling, looked up at the Forkbeard. “Why did my Jarl buy me?” she asked.
“You have excellent teeth,” said the Forkbeard.  MARAUDERS OF GOR; 9; Pages 162-163

He looked about himself. On the dais, with him, were several men, low tables of food, fruit, stews, tidbits of roast verr, assorted breads. He and the males were veiled. About the dais, kneeling, waiting to serve, were slave girls, some in high collars, clad in strands of slave silk. They were not veiled. Among the upper classes in the Tahari, it is scandalously erotic, generally, that a female’s mouth should not be concealed. To see a girl’s lips and teeth is a charged experience. To touch a girl’s teeth with your teeth is prelude to the seizure of her body, an act that one would engage in only with a bold, brazen mate, or with one’s shameless slave girl, with whom one can do with, to her joy, precisely as one pleases.  TRIBESMEN OF GOR; 10; Pages 212-213

At one point, turning my head, thrusting two fingers of his left hand and two fingers of his right hand into my mouth, he pulled my mouth widely, examining my teeth. I have excellent teeth, white and small and straight. I had had two cavities, which had been filled. He paid them little attention. He had seen, as I later learned, women from Earth before. Such tiny things can be used to determine Earth origin. Goreans seldom have cavities. I am not certain what the reasons for this are. In part it is doubtless a matter of a plainer, simpler diet, containing less sugar; in part, I suspect, the culture, too, may have a role to play, as it is a culture in which undue chemical stress, through guilt and worry, is not placed on the system either in the prepubertal or pubertal years.  SLAVE GIRL OF GOR; 11; Pages 26-27

"How are you, little vulo?" he said.
"Well, Master," I said.
"She is barbarian," he said.
"Oh?" said Melina. She knew I was barbarian.
"Open your mouth," said the man.
I opened my mouth.
"See?" he said to Melina. He had his fingers in my mouth, opening it widely. "In the back tooth, on the top, on the left," he said, "a tiny bit of metal."
"Physicians can do that," said Melina.
"Are you from a place called Earth?" asked the man.
"Yes, Master," I said.
"See?" he asked Melina.
"Clever slave," said Meina.
I feared I would be switched.  SLAVE GIRL OF GOR; 11; Page 209

“Get on your feet, here by the lantern,” said the first m
“And open your mouth, widely.”
I complied.
“Durbar, come up here,” said the first man. He was joined by his fellow. “Back there, see?” he asked Durbar.
“Yes,” said Durbar.
As a child I had had some fillings in the molar area, on lower left side.
“They are common in barbarians,” said the first man.
“Yes,” said Durbar. “But, those of the caste of physician do such things. I have seen them in some Gorean girls.”
“That is true,” admitted the first man.
These fellows must also know that doubtless such things might be found occasionally in the mouths of some Gorean men. On the other hand, of course, they would not have been likely to have seen them there. They would have seen them presumably, only in the mouths of girls, slaves. One of things that a master commonly checks in a female he is considering buying is the number and condition of her teeth.
“Lie back down,” said the first man, “on your back, as before.”
I did so.
“Are you a barbarian?” he asked.
“Yes,” I said. I did not see how I could, in the light of facts, hope to conceal this from them.  KAJIRA OF GOR; 19; Page 259

Kudos to you, Mr. Norman for writing the Gorean series!
A rich, yet utterly simple saga; a world, a time, a people;
those of the Counter-Earth .. the planet .. Gor.
Thank you!
