Gorean Commands and Positions
Heel
“She heels nicely,” said Ottar. The men and bond-maids laughed.
The Forkbeard stopped. Hilda’s face burned red with fury, but she kept her head
high.
Pet sleen are taught to heel; so, too, sometimes, are bond-maids; I was familiar
with this sort of thing, of course; in the south it was quite common for slave
girls, in various fashions in various cities, to heel their masters.
Hiida, of course was a free woman. For her to heel was an incredible
humiliation.
The Forkbeard started off again, and then again stopped. Again, Hilda followed
him as before.
“She is heeling!” laughed Ottar.
There were tears of rage in Hilda’s eyes. What he said, of course, was true. She
was heeling. On his ship the Forkbeard had taught her, though a free woman, to
heel. MARAUDERS OF GOR; 9; Page 123 Staggering under the
weight of the shield, the pouch and bota about my neck, I followed him. Once
he turned and, with the spear, indicated the position and distance at which
I should follow. These things vary, I learned, from city to city, and
depend, also, on such matters as context and conditions. In a market, in the
crowding and jostling, for instance, a girl may follow so closely she
pressed against the back of his left shoulder. Girls seldom follow behind
and on the right. If she is thusly placed it is commonly a sign she is in
disfavor. If more than one girl is involved, she who follows most closely on
the left is generally taken to be in highest favor; girls compete for this
position. In an open area, such as the fields in which we trekked, the girl
is placed usually some five or ten feet behind, and on the left. If he must
move suddenly she will not, thusly, constitute an impediment to his action.
He again took up his march. Carrying his shield, the pouch and bota, some
eight or nine feet behind him, on his left, I followed him.
SLAVE GIRL OF GOR; 11; Page 30 “It will not be hard to sell
you,” I said. “You are quite beautiful.”
“No!” she begged. “Do not sell me, Master!”
I turned my back upon her. I thought I would probably obtain a silver tarsk
for her. She was new to the collar, but she had incredible potentialities.
Any slaver could determine that.
With a few more havings I thought she would be helpless, and paga hot.
I strode toward the market. I must leave soon. The girl stumbled after me,
weeping. “Please, Master!” she wept. I did not tell her to heel. It was not
necessary. She was slave. BEASTS OF GOR; 12; Page 140 I
stepped aside and let her precede me down the stairs. She was a free woman,
and a woman of earth. She was not a slave, who must heel her Master.
ROGUE OF GOR; 15; Page 134 I opened the door and looked
within. Then I stepped back, and indicated that she should precede me into
the house.
“I expected to heel you into the house,” she said.
“You are a free woman,” I said. “You will enter first.”
She looked at me warily. “What is to be done with me inside?” she asked.
“You are a woman of Earth,” I reminded her. “Nothing.”
“Where is the topaz?” she asked.
“What topaz?” I asked.
She cried out in anger, and then entered the house. She would enter first,
for she was a free woman. ROGUE OF GOR; 15; Page 152 He
then joined Peggy on the landing. He regarded the lovely, bound slave. She
drew back. “Am I not to heel you, my Master?” she asked.
“Precede me,” he said.
“Yes, Master,” she said.
“Thus,” said he, “should any of Victoria be abroad at this hour they may
observe the value and the quality of the animal, this lovely gift, which I
have been given.”
“Yes, Master,” she said.
“And, too,” he smiled, “I wish to anticipate the pleasures which I am
shortly to derive from you.”
“Yes, Master,” she laughed, and hurried down the stairs ahead of him.
ROGUE OF GOR; 15; Page 273 I extended my hand. I would snap my fingers. When I snapped my fingers she
would rise to her feet and follow me, heeling me, like the sleek domestic
beast she was, to her master’s lodge. One of the first things a girl is
taught to do is to heel. BLOOD BROTHERS OF GOR; 18; Page 108
“Do you know how to heel, Feiqa?” I asked.
“Yes, Master,” she said. She was a Gorean woman, familiar at least
superficially with the duties and obligations of slaves. To be sure, as a
recently free woman, she might perhaps find herself astounded and horrified
at some of the things that would now, even routinely, be required of her. I
did not know. Certain things which are not only common knowledge to slaves
but, even a normal, familiar part of their lives seem to be scarcely
suspected by free women. These are the sorts of things about which free
women, horrified and scandalized, scarcely believing them, sometimes
whisper, fearfully, delightedly, among themselves. Some Earth-girl slaves
brought to Gor, incidentally, do not even know how to heel. Incredibly, they
must be taught. They learn quickly, of course, in the collar, and subject to
the whip. MERCENARIES OF GOR; 21; Page 14 "Heel," I said.
"Yes, my captor," she said.
I turned to regard her. She would follow me, behind and on the
left. In this way the sword arm is not likely to be encumbered. VAGABONDS
OF GOR; 24; Page 381 He called Teibar then waved to the men about,
and turning about, took his way from the area of the circle. The slave rose
to her feet and hurried after him, to heel him. More than one man touched
her, and as a slave may be touched, as she moved through them, hurrying to
catch up with her master. To even these touches I could see her respond,
even in her flight. I saw that she was a hot slave, and one, who would be,
whether she wished it or not, uncontrollable, helplessly responsive, in a
man’s arms. Then she was with her master, seeming to heel him, but yet so
close to him that she touched him, brushing against him. I had little doubt
that she would soon be lengthily used, ravished with all the attention,
detail and patience with which Gorean masters are wont to exploit their
helpless chattels. MAGICIANS OF GOR; 25; Page 56 I stood on the Wall Road, back
near Harness Street. Here I was about a hundred feet back from the wall.
In moment or two Marcus was again beside me, and Phoebe behind him, on his
left. The girl normally heels a right-handed master on the left, that she
not encumber the movements of the weapon hand. MAGICIANS OF GOR; 25; Page 117
Kudos to you, Mr. Norman for writing the Gorean series!
A rich, yet utterly simple saga; a world, a time, a people;
those of the Counter-Earth .. the planet .. Gor.
Thank you!
