Gorean Commands and Positions
Har-ta
I shouted to my tarn, in Gorean and in English. “Har-ta! Har-ta!
Faster! Faster!” TARNSMAN OF GOR; 1; Page 57 We flashed
through the end rings and, on the straightaway, saw, ahead, the Yellow and
the Red approaching the left side rings. Like an arrow, a black torrent,
Ubar of the Skies flashed toward the side rings. I think that there could be
on Gor no tarn his equal. “Har-ta!” I cried. “Faster! Har-ta! Faster!
Faster!” ASSASSIN OF GOR; 5; Page 375 “Har-ta!” cried
Targo. “Har-ta!”
“Har-ta!” cried the men about us.
The girls began to push harder. We strained, to increase the speed of the
wagon. From time to time the men would thrust, too, at the wheels.
We cried out with pain as two of the men, about the sides, one on each side,
encouraged us with their switches.
We could pull no harder. And yet we were struck! I dared not protest.
The wagon lumbered over the grassy fields.
Targo walked beside us. I would have thought he would have ridden in the
wagon, but he did not. He wanted it as light as it could be, even though it
meant he, the leader, must walk.
How I dreaded it when he would cry “Har-ta!” for then we would be switched
again.
I sobbed in the straps, under the switch. CAPTIVE OF GOR; 7; Page
56-57 "Har-ta," said he. "Faster." Lehna, who was first girl
on the chain, hastened.
Suddenly I was terrified. My will literally meant nothing. Anything might be
done to me. The guard had not permitted me to do so much as brush against
him. If I could not even placate a man sexually, I was completely without
power. Even my attempt to please a man was dependent upon his permission
that I should attempt to do so.
I shuddered.
I, hurrying, looked up into the black, starlit Gorean night. I trembled. I,
though a girl of Earth, was chained in coffle under three barbaric moons.
"Har-ta," said the soldier.
Again Lehna hastened. In moments we were leaving the camp, wading the
stream. I felt the cold water about my ankles, and then calves; then I felt
it over my knees; then I felt it swirling at my thighs; we lifted the chain
to hold it out of the water.
"Har-ta," said the soldier, he in whose charge we were.
Again we hurried. One does not daily under the command of a Gorean master.
I felt the pebbles and stones of the bank beneath my feet. The chain pulled
forward on my wrist. I looked up at the wild moons.
I was a slave girl.
"Har-ta!" I heard. "Har-ta!"
The chain pulled forward again.
I, hurrying, stumbled behind the others.
I did not know into what bondage I was being led. I knew only that it would
be absolute. SLAVE GIRL OF GOR; 11; Page 133-134
“Har-ta!” said Imnak to the girls. “Har-ta!” The expression ‘Har-ta’ is
Gorean. “Faster! Faster!” He spoke sometimes to them in his own tongue, and
sometimes in Gorean. Imnak himself spoke fair Gorean. He had traded furs and
skins south more than once. Many of the red hunters cannot speak Gorean.
BEASTS OF GOR; 12; Page 191 “Har-ta, Kajira!” I said. “Faster,
Slave Girl!” I struck her with the straps, a sharp blow, that she might
understand that she was not to daily.
“Yes, Master,” she said. EXPLORERS OF GOR; 13; Page 372
“Faster! Har-ta!” cried the young man to the tharlarion. SAVAGES OF
GOR; 17; Page 84 When he reached the Hobarts he unhooked his
whip from its saddle ring and, throwing it out behind him, and then bringing
it forward, he lashed them. “Hurry!” he called. “Har-ta! Faster! Faster!
Har-ta! Har-ta!”
They hurried on before him, stumbling and gasping, helplessly herded,
driven, responding to his will and the imperious strokes of his whip,
neck-chained and bound, his enemies. I smiled. It is pleasant to have one’s
enemies in one’s power.
I did not look back. SAVAGES OF GOR; 17; Pages 166-167
Kudos to you, Mr. Norman for writing the Gorean series!
A rich, yet utterly simple saga; a world, a time, a people;
those of the Counter-Earth .. the planet .. Gor.
Thank you!
